Chris Brown requests Rihanna restraining order be lifted for Grammys
[HMG Celebrity News] – When Chris Brown was accused of assaulting Rihanna just before the 2009 Grammys the world was incensed. A Judge later banned him from being within 100-yards of the singer, but Chris is now hoping that rule can be lifted before this year’s event.
The 21-year old is up for three awards this year but the order still requires him to stay 10 yards away from Rihanna while attending a show, so during a progress hearing in court yesterday he and his lawyer, Mark Geragos asked a Judge to vacate the order.
After congratulating the singer for completing his domestic violence program ‘in fine fashion’, LA Superior Court Judge Patricia Schnegg said she’d check with Rihanna’s attorneys about ending the order, but had no objection to it being lowered to just ‘Do not annoy.’
After the assault in February of 2009 life for the multi-platinum winner went downhill at speed – numerous radio stations pulled the ads for his album and stopped playing his songs, he had to plead guilty to a felony, his comeback CD, ‘Graffiti’ was a commercial disaster and his reputation was seriously stained.
But with three nominations at this year’s awards (including best R&B album), a new CD in the mix and a tour of Australia booked for April the public focus has returned to his music and disregarded the spat with Rihanna.
As for his ex, Rihanna is up for six Grammys, five of them ironically for ‘Love the Way You Lie,’ the duet with Eminem which deals with domestic abuse.
Whether the order is lifted or not, Chris still has three years of probation to serve and must also return to court once Rihanna’s attorneys decide if they object to the order being lifted.
Chris has completed the required training and community service and Rihanna has moved on with her life. So would you lift the order? Sound off in the comments and let’s take a poll…
