Bubble Gum : Movie Review

Teenager's first crush, pressure of studies, feeling of being neglected by parents, giving attention to elder brother, preparation and celebration of holi which every teenage usually comes across is highlighted in 'Bubble Gum'. In the recent past, many movies were made based on teenage like MERA PEHLA PEHLA PYAAR, UDAAN, TERE MERE SANG, ROCKFORD, KACCHA LIMBO , (the latest being) ALWAYS KABHI KABHI but the significance of all those films and 'Bubble Gum' is that every story is given a different treatment.

'Bubble Gum' is set in 80's where cable connection, internet, facebook, twitter did not come into exist. Only telephone of old form was prevalent. The story has a middle class family as its backdrop. It is a story about colony where children goes to school together, participate and enjoy every celebration.

It is a story of a middle class family resides in Ahmedabad in which there is a father (Sachin Kheddekar) works in a steel factory, mother (Tanvi Azmi) who woks as a school teacher and their two sons, Vedant (Delzad Hiravali), and Vidur (Sohail Lakhani). Vedant is younger to Vidhur, being the smallest member of the family; he is pampered a lot and becomes a bit naughty. Vidhur is deaf and studies in a hearing impaired school. As generally happens, heart beats very fast at this age and Vedant's heart also pulp for his class mate Jenny (Apoorva Arora).

The biggest barrier in Vedant's love life is Ratan (Suraj Singh), a colony boy who also has a soft corner for Jenny. Add to Vedant's misery is the coming home of his elder brother during holi. Everybody is happy in the house as Vidhut is coming home. His favorite dishes has been cooked, everywhere there is celebration and amidst of all these Vedant left deserted when all the attention and sympathy of his parents went to Vidhur.

Vidhut is a hearing impaired and Vedant tries to include his brother in his gang, but his friends laugh at Vidur for his disability. Their joy was not long lasting and soon a situations arise where there were shouts, scolding, tears, Vedant mistakes.

'Bubble Gum' is a simple, heartwarming story where there is love, laugh, enjoyment and little pain. Director Sanjivan Lal's execution of the script is praise worthy. When you watch the movie, you will feel like coming across those stances during your teenage. Lal has given the story a simple homely treatment with happens in every day-to-day life. We all know that such things happen in our day to day life but to put it into celluloid is something vey difficult.

Speaking about performances, the central character Sohail Lakhani looks perfectly his age. He as a traumatized boy was as par excellence. Sachin Khedekar and Tanvi Azmi as Vidhur and Vedant's parents have well depicted their role. Tanvi requires special mention for portraying the sign language so flawlessly. Delzad Hiravali as deaf boy is okay. Apoorva Arora as Vedant's love was lovely.

The film's music by Hanif Shaikh and Bapi Tutul is not at all ear-soothing but the background score by Salim Merchant is laudable. Anshul Chobey's cinematography is nice.

In the nutshell, 'Bubble Gum' is a sweet, simple story of a teenage. It is a joyous ride to the teenage days. Good watch. Won't let your expectation down.

Issue-based films tend to get themselves into trouble. And we don't mean just the trouble caused by disgruntled parties, political or otherwise.

The balance that needs to be struck between headlines and their cinematic interpretation often tends to get lost thereby defeating the noblest of purposes and the best intentions of conscientious filmmakers who look at the cinematic medium as more than just entertainment.

Ajai Sinha who has his roots in meaningful television entertainment , boldly takes on the theme of khap (community) justice in rural Haryana whereby any marriage between two individuals of the same gotra (clan) is punished by local village panchayats. It's a powerful subject that needed a singlemindedly uncompromised treatment.

Sadly Sinha dilutes the theme with dollops of formula-baazi. There's a teenybopper love-angle featuring two relative newcomers who need a crash-course in basic acting and grooming. The young love-birds chat online with what they feel are sweet cute and funny lines.

If only they knew! The entire treatment and development of their romance is redolent of amateurishness. Precious time is frittered away in gawkily composed and choreographed song and dances where the love birds coo sweet-nothings into one another's ears.

You feel like pushing these two campus wannabes out of the way to watch the impending drama in a village of Haryana where the panchayat is a law unto itself.

The interweavement of characters into a dramatic circle embodying outdated customs and their clash with contemporary mores, could have acquired a greater validity if the narrative had focused more on hardhitting rural prejudices rather than jejune urban affectations.

Om Puri as the village sarpanch is the pick of the plot. He gets the meatiest part with the best emotional graph. He doesn't need to make much of an effort to make the part his own, and he doesn't even try.

Nowadays a kind of laziness has crept into distinguished actor's repertoire. It's wonderful to see the talented Manoj Pahwa grab a pivotal role. Pahwa was hilarious as Ayesha Takiya's delusional suitor in Wanted.

Here he sinks into the role of a village elder who once watched his daughter being slaughtered for the village honour.

Ajai Sinha's antecedents from television make themselves evident in the way the drama unfolds in episodic overtures covering huge time-frames with soft punctuation marks.

The film would have worked better with a more confident cast of younger plays. The elders can only take the drama so far. Khap is finally betrayed by the wimpish and awkward portrayal of the urban young and by too many attempts to draw out a soap-opera-styled drama from situations that seem to plead for more finesse in presentation.

Nonetheless Khap should be commended for attempting a socially-relevant theme with some amount of detachment and equanimity. Should love between cousins or people from within one family be sternly discouraged just because the village panchayat feels it is damaging to the social framework?

Karisma Kapoor is back with a bang!!! We've already reported earlier that the gorgeous lady will be seen in Vikram Bhatt's 3D horror film Dangerous Ishq. Now, if buzz is to be believed, Sajid Nadiadwala has approached the actress for and item number in Houseful 2.

Initially, it was Rani Mukheerjee was the first choice for the item song. However, things did not work out and so, Karishma was then approached.

According to a source close to the unit hand, "Lolo's association with Sajid is very old. The duo has worked together for films like Jeet and Judwaa. Sajid and Lolo are still in touch. So after Rani refused, Sajid thought of Karisma who looks as sexy as she was earlier".

News : Salman Khan to play cameo in Hema Malini’s film

'Tell me O Khuda' is an attempt to re-launch and firm Esha Deol's foothold in Bollywood. Hema Malini has roped in Salman Khan for a special appearance in the film.

"Salman Khan has been very gracious to be a part of my film Tell Me O KKhuda. What an adorable person!!!!" the veteran actress posted on Twitter.

In fact, it was Salman Khan's idea to appear as cameo in Hema Malini's movie and the veteran actress is more than happy to include Salman in her flick.

The story is about a girl's quest to know her origins.

The film also stars Dharmendra, Vinod Khanna, Rishi Kapoor, Arjan Bajwa and Chandan Roy Sanyal. The film is slated to release on 30th September.

Shakti Kapoor's daughter Shraddha Kapoor is yet to show her acting prowess to the world but she had already started making news for all wrong reasons. The newbie is rumored to be dating the heartthrob of Bollywood, Ranbir Kapoor.But the actress vehemently denied.

When asked about her take on the issue, Shraddha clearly denied the report, "I don't want to talk about my personal life. Ranbir is a fantastic guy. I don't know from where these rumours have come up. I am not dating him," she said.

It is also heard that Ranbir has asked his close friend director Ayan Mukherjee to cast Shraddha in his coming project.

Shraddha, however rebuffs the rumour, "Ayan (Mukherjee) is my good friend. If he comes up with anything interesting, I would love to be part of it."

However, Shraddha expressed her desire to work with Ranbir, "I would love to work with Ranbir (Kapoor), Imran (Khan) and Hrithik (Roshan).

The actor concluded that she is not wary of rumours and controversies and said, "They are part and parcel of our lives. We have to deal with it, there's no escape."

For the first time, she walked the ramp for designer Anju Modi.

News : Sonakshi Sinha opposite Ajay Devgn in ‘SOS’

Sonakshi Sinha and Ajay Devgn will be seen together for the first time, in 'SOS, Son of Sardar.' The film is a remake of the Telugu blockbuster Maryada Ramanna and has Punjab as its backdrop.
Ajay Devgn will be co-producing the film. Ashwini Dheer, who shot to fame with 'Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge', is the director of the film.

Speculations were that South star Tamanna would be essaying the role. Buzz also had it that Kareena Kapoor was approached for the lead lady. might do the role. But now, it's finally Sonakshi Sinha who would be playing the leading lady.

Baby Shotgun is definitely one lucky chick in B town. The actress has a list of films lined up for release. And what's more interesting is that she will be seen acting opposite the biggies in Bollywood.

The film will have Ajay sporting the same tough, muscular look, which was seen in Singham.

Recently, Neil tweets, "I stood outside deepikas door yesterday with a red rose for three hours. Then I realized that she had gone for the promotions of 'Aarakshan'." We are still waiting for DP's reply.

Just a few days ago, during an interview with a tabloid, Deepika Padukone was asked what she had to say about Neil's statement, which said, if you were single, he would be the first to be waiting outside your door with a rose. The actress replied,"I don't know what is stopping him."

Kajal Aggrawal has turned a star over night, in Bollywood, with 'Singham' becoming a HIT. Ever since 'Singham' happened, the actress has been attracting a huge fan following.

Last week, one of Kajal's fan, stating himself as a businessman, insisted Kajal on signing his forthcoming film, as he wanted to get into films, himself.

Says a source, "Kajal got calls and smses from a man, who claimed to be a businessman wanting to get in to films. When they finally met, he narrated a script to Kajal, however, she turned it down and said that she was looking for something else. That's when he insisted to give her a signing amount."

"After much insistence, Kajal finally took the signing amount, since he told her that he would come up with another script. However, when the man did not turn up for the next 3-4 days, the manager called him. He simply said that he had no intention of making any film but just wanted to meet Kajal," added the source.

"He had seen many of her south Indian films and was a huge fan of hers. He apologised but said that he could not think of any other way to meet Kajal. When the actress' manager asked him to take his signing amount back, he refused and disconnected. Fortunately, Kajal had not cashed the approximately Rs 3 lakh cheque. She found the whole incident very amusing," concluded the source.

Kajal confirming the news, says, "He came and showered me with compliments. It was very funny as the person never showed up again. I was flattered, but a little unnerved by the whole situation."

Finally, the two years long cat-fight between Katrina Kaif and Deepika Padukone has ended at Dinesh Vijan's birthday party. The two bonded strongly at the bash and seems no vibes between them. Actually Dinesh has worked with both Kareena and Deepika and so he cannot avoid anyone of them. He has worked with Deepika and Saif in 'Love Aaj Kal' and also worked with Kareena Kapoor and Saif in 'Agent Vinod'

A source present at the party said, "Contrary to all the apprehensions, there was no animosity between Deepika and Kareena. They greeted each other warmly and were seen having a conversation."

The two actresses do not see eye to eye ever since Deepika was paired opposite Saif in 'Love Aaj Kal'. In a recent interview when Deepika was asked about Kareena's insecurity, she replied, "Well that's her insecurity I can't do anything about that. But we've had no problems."

Bebo was also upset with Deepika when she once remarked that she was the original choice for 'Ra.One' item number 'Chammak Challo'.

Madhur Bhandarkar has finally got his dream lady for his highly anticipated project, 'Heroine'. Kareena Kapoor has agreed to play the lead role following some changes in the script but a new barrier has come on the way of the film shoot. Bebo has no time for 'Heroine'.

She is currently busy shooting for 'Atul Agnihotri's 'Bodyguard' then she will be busy with Saif Ali Khan's 'Agent Vinod'. Later, she will be busy in the post production of Reema Kagti's untitled thriller'. Then she will start shooting for Karan Johar's 'Short Term Shaadi' with Imran Khan. The makers of 'Heroine' wanted to start the film this year but Kareena is fully engaged this year.

After pregnant Aishwarya Rai Bachchan walked out of the project, Madhur totally broke down but when Kareena agreed to do the film, he got some relief.

News : Sanjay Dutt to play Salman Khan's father

After an ugly tiff, Salman Khan has finally convinced his best friend Sanjay Dutt to be his father. Salman and Sanjay had been thick friends in the industry over the years. So when Salman asked Sanju Baba to play his father, he can't say no. Actually, in 'Bodygurad', Salman wants a masculine, rough and tough body hero to enact the role of his father and he finds Sanjay the perfect choice.

A source said, "Salman had actually made the offer of his father`s role to Sanju two days earlier, and the latter just laughed it off. At the party last Thursday, he brought it up again. This time, Sanju lost his cool and an angry scene ensued."

All knows if Salman wants something, he would have it by any means. Salman is a person who always stands by his friend in need and so when he approached Sanju Baba, he readily agreed. "Salman is not being unrealistic or spiteful by offering Dutt his father`s role. Salman is the kind of person who would do anything for a friend. If Dutt asked him to play a walk-on part in a film, Salman wouldn`t think twice before doing it. So he sees nothing wrong in offering Dutt his father`s role, and he won`t take a no for an answer," added the source.

Rakhi Sawant is hosting a new show, 'Ghajab Desh Ki Ajab Kahini' and she has laid an exorbitant demand to the producer. She has demanded heavy accessories and costly wardrobe. Rakhi has also demanded C-string panties in three colors, red, green and purple which are very popular in Hollywood but rarely available in India. Rakhi has also threatened the channel to walk out of the show if her requirements are not fulfilled.

A source from the production house told, "Rakhi, who's hosting the show, put forth her demands in terms of clothes and accessories. The cost of her wardrobe is around Rs 70 lakh, way beyond what we had expected it to be. We are still negotiating. As if all this wasn't enough, Rakhi recently read a lot about C-string and wants them to be included in her clothes. While her clothes aren't a problem, getting a C-string is difficult. It's not available in the Indian markets yet, but she has issued us an ultimatum and will refuse to shoot unless she gets them."

Rakhi Sawant has given an ultimatum that if her demands are not fulfilled she would not shoot. If Rakhi has been able to satisfy her demand that she would be the first Indian to wear C-string panty.

Actress Katrina Kaif opted out of Aditya Chopra's Dhoom 3 to work with ex beau Ranbir Kapoor in Karan Johar's next. But unfortunately the dates of both the movies are clashing, leaving Kat in confusion.

As a source tells a tabloid, "Adi can't tell Aamir to shift his dates for an actress. And Ranbir's dates can't be moved because he has a packed schedule. So the only option left was for Katrina to choose either of the films. Adi spoke with Karan over phone and they mutually decided that Katrina should do Karan's film."

The source says, "It's been a difficult decision for Katrina as well. She was looking forward to working with Aamir, and is quite disheartened to let go of such a good opportunity."

Katrina is very upset with the way things have turned out for her. Losing a film with Aamir Khan is surely upsetting.

News : Katrina, Hrithik meet with a minor accident

As reported Katrina Kaif took Hrithik Roshan for a bike ride but it was not a smooth ride as Kat's bike rammed with another bike.

An eyewitness reveals, "Katrnia's bike was surrounded by many other bikes and cars. There were media people trying to record the bike ride on camera. A bike which was in front of Katrina and Hrithik's bike, suddenly stopped and Kartina wasn't able to stop her bike on time. She ended up ramming it from the side."

The eyewitness further adds, "Katrina and Hrithik didn't fall. Thankfully, it wasn't a major accident and Hrithik and Katrina escaped unhurt. After the incident a little peeved Hrithik asked all the bike riders to be more careful."

The actress promoted her film 'Zindagi Na Melegi Dobara' by riding a bike, on interaction with the media, the actress said, "I'm sure it would have been easier if there weren't so many people in front of me. But it was fun. I used to ride before but it actually started when I got my training for ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA."

Hrithik Roshan added, "We all should give Katrina a huge round of applause. I feel very proud. Not many men can do what she has done. In the middle of so many bikes and cars, she did this. It's unbelievable. I'm really impressed."

Well, it was a joyous ride.

Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor dazzled in white lehenga and heavily embroidered red backless overcoat with embellished gold work as she walked the ramp for ace designer Manish Malhotra at the ongoing Synergy1 Delhi Couture Week in the capital.

She appeared as a surprise showstopper. Manish Malhotra's design has been inspired from traditional work of the 1930-1940. His design leaves the mark of royalty. His collection is a blend of traditional and contemporary silhouettes with a touch of British influence.

"I have reinterpreted the 1930 and 1940s style of clothing in my designs. The collection had a flare of everything that a couture garment should have. I felt it`s the time to move away from duplication and revisit the classic style with glamorous look," said Manish Malhotra.

The women`s were seen mostly wearing ghagaras, lehengas, suits and saris while the men`s basically wore high embroided sherwani. Present at the event was Sonakshi Sinha, who walked the ramp for Shantanu-Nikhil`s show. Shweta Nanda and Jas Arora were also present.
