We’ve all been sucked into marathon YouTube cat video sessions once or twice (watching a fat fur ball play in a shoe box never gets old).

A better way to mesmerize yourself on the Net without depleting brain cells? Introducing Mason Jar Music, a group of NYC-based musicians and filmmakers who take a song by a solo artist, create an original orchestral arrangement for it, and perform it with the artist and backing instrumentalists in an industrial space. All in front of a camera.

The result: beautiful videos with Josh Garrels, Abigail Washburn, and — premiering today on DailyCandy — Portland singer/songwriter Laura Gibson. The unreleased song, “Milk-Heavy, Pollen-Eyed,” was recorded in New York’s Metropolitan Building with clarinetist Aleksandr Karjaka.
