Well, here we are. Summer's winding down and school is looming over us yet again. It's a scenario that we're all too familiar with, but we shouldn't let the foreboding angst of class get the best of us — let's think of the positive!
Going back to school means many things. On the negative side, we're making a return to studying, exams and the whole waking up early deal. However, on the positive side, we have friends, the acquisition of knowledge (whatever that means) and, the kicker, first day outfits!

First day outfits are not as crucial as they were back in high school, but they do mean a lot. As they say, first impressions are everything. You definitely want to give your classmates the impression that you're fashionable and, if you look cute enough, you may just get a guaranteed A from the professor after day one. I'm kidding … sort of.
Now let's get that A!

This outfit is very nautical inspired because, let's face it, it's a good look. The shirt I picked for its stripes, and also the way the neck looks similar to a Henley. The shorts I chose because I like the way a darker blue looks on red, and cut-off denim shorts look very nice and summery. Cuffing them makes the outfit look a little more put together, which is a plus. The shoes I liked because of the toe loop and the braid. The fact that it runs across the foot instead of the traditional up-the-foot style appealed to me as well. The bracelets I used to tie the color together from the foot up, and the black-framed Wayfarers are easy to throw on any outfit and make it look cool, collected and stylish.

This outfit is more of a hipster look but, hey: if it's in, it's in! I used the floral skirt as a starter item, because it adds a lot of color and the print is very playful and summery, which is what we're going for at this time of the year. I also like how clean a tucked-in tank looks with a higher skirt, so I added one of those as well. I went with a generic flat, as being comfortable walking to and from class is everything. To add a little extra to the outfit, as it can be a little plain, I added a dreamcatcher necklance — still hipster, still loving it — and a fedora, which is a super basic hat that can add some not so basic style to your outfit. To polish off the look I added sunglasses yet again, but decided to go for aviators since the look is a little more low-key and the size of the glasses can amp it up a bit.

Thoughts?

Would you consider these outfits for your return to school? What other ideas do you have for stopping everyone in their tracks? Let us know via comment!
