I Am Kalam - Movie Review

'I am Kalam' is a heart-warming, thought provoking subject. It is a sincere effort by the makers to uplift the plight of the less privileged children in our high-class society. Off late, two films 'Stanley Ka Dabba' and 'Chillar Party' was released and both the movies talks about children plight at the backdrop and was highly appreciated by critics and loved by the audience as well. 'I am Kalam' also speaks about poverty, destitute and less-privileged children. It strikes the painful chord of the society.

'Chotu' is the universal name given to a boy serving tea in a stall or selling stuffs on roads. But in this movie, 'Chotu is kalam who cherish the dream to become like our former president of India, APJ Abdul Kalam crossing all the barriers of poverty and making big one day. A child deprived of education in his childhood is the biggest setback in our society.

God's destitute child Chotu (Harsh Mayar), is bound to work in a small roadside food stall to run his family. Chotu is jovial and he has not regret for such hardship at the time when he has all the right to study and have fun. Chotu is a boy of strong determination. He is adamant to change his future one day. During daylight, he used to work in a stall and in the evening, he study by managing books from somewhere. He aims to get educated and change his destiny.

Chotu works in a stall run by Bhatti (Gulshan Grover). Also works in the stall a hardcore Amitabh Bachchan's fan, Laptan who always act as a barrier in Chotu's path. One day after listening to Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam's speech, Chotu was motivated and he changed his name to Kalam. He starts working towards his dream of becoming a big man one day.

He befriends with a local prince Ranvijay Singh (Hussan Saad) who hails from a royal family. Chotu and Ranvijay become the best of buddies. They share books and help each other. Chotu helps Ranvijay in Hindi lessons while Ranvijay helps Chotu in English. Then there starts a journey of hardship, friendship, sacrifice and pursuing dreams.

'I am Kalam' is an inspirational film, very clean and a motivating subject. Sanjay Chauhan's script is very absorbing. Mohana Krishna's cinematography captures Rajasthan beautifully. Prashant Nair's editing is spotless. Nila Madhab Panda's directorial debut is very inspiring.

Speaking about performances, the main protagonist Harsh Mayar sparks as Chotu. Gulshan Grover, Husaan Saad and Beatrice Ordeix chip delivered a commendable performance.

In the nutshell, 'I am Kalam' is a great film which audiences will love and cherish for life long.

Earlier Bipasha Basu was keeping distance from Salman Khan due to John Abraham's tiff with the actor but now that John is away from her life, she has started bonding with the star. Buzz is that Bipasha has been chosen to shake a leg in Sohail Khan's upcoming production, 'Sher Khan'

Bips is bonding with Salman both professionally and personally.

A source said, "While they were never friends, they weren`t enemies either. She maintained a distance from Salman when she was seeing John. Now that he`s out of the picture, she`s keen on bridging the divide. In fact, she has been a regular at Galaxy Apartments (Khan`s bastion) for Arpita`s Ganesh puja for the last two years. She has been texting him quite often these days, and they even seem to have discovered a shared passion for poetry. She has introduced Salman to her favourite couplets and lines.

Salman will finish work on 'Sher Khan' before 'Dabangg 2' and there's a pretty good chance that Bipasha may feature in the film if their friendship continues".

"Bipasha definitely wants to work with Salman. She feels that several opportunities were lost in the past. Now, if there`s such a chance, she`ll grab it with both hands," added the source.

One of the most awaited flick Agneepath, will have Katrina Kaif groove to an item number. Joining her will be the very dashing Sanjay Dutt.

Ever since "Sheila Ki Jawani", Katrina Kaif is in demand. She just wrraped up with an item song for Bodyguard and now, another has come her way.

We hear that Sanju baba will go on a two week break to rehearse his steps. The song will be composed by Marathi brothers Atul and Ajay Gogavale. If buzz is to be believed, the item will be on the lines of chart buster 'Jhuma chooma de de' in Mukul Anand's Hum.

Sanjay Dutt is making every effort to remain true to his character, Kancha Cheena. He will shave his head off for the third time in the film, during the two week break. Just recently, i.e. on Monday, he had shaved his head for the second time.

Dutt's business manager Dharam Oberoi confirmed, "Yes, he has shaved his head again for some patchwork shooting. He will also have to shave his head off in September."

News : Shilpa Shetty shaves off her hair

Shilpa Shetty will be seen in a bald look in her upcoming film, 'The Desire'. Shilpa has not shaved off her head but opted for prosthetic make-up. She reveals the secret, "I opted for prosthetic make up for the film. Getting the bald look was a three hours job. My film is complete now and has been shown at various international film festivals. It has just won the Best Narrative at the Boston Film Festival."

Shilpa Shetty would star opposite a Chinese actor Xia Yu in the film. 'The Desire' has been directed by R Sarath and also stars Indian actors like Jaya Prada, Anupam Kher, Sheetal Menon and Sachin Khedekar.

The Desire is a film that speaks about dance, music, art, culture and emotions. It tells the journey of an Indian classical dancer, Goutami who falls in love with a Chinese artist, Jai Leang, whom she meets during a travel assignment.

Hot : Vidya couldn’t kiss Tusshar

Vidya Balan was supposed to film a kissing scene with Tusshar Kapoor in her upcoming film, 'Dirty Picture' but unfortunately the smooching scene between Vidya and Tusshar could not be shot due to dragonflies attack. Everything was set at the Ramoji studio in Hyderabad and Tusshar was just about to kiss Vidya but all of a sudden bunch of dragonflies entered the shooting area and disrupted everything.

It was getting inside the mouth and clothes of the crew member and to shoot under such circumstances was just impossible. On looking at the call of the situation, director Milan Luthria called off the shoot. The scene has to be shot at night but by the time the dragonflies left, it was almost morning.

The cast flew off to Mumbai and now the kissing scene will be shot in Mumbai later this month.

Director Milan Luthria confirmed the incident, "There were millions of those flies. They would get into our mouths and clothes," he recalls.

Gossip : All is not well in Shahrukh-Gauri's paradise

News : Pregnant Ash upsets award organizers

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has miffed a magazine award organizer. She was supposed to attend a magazine award function but shockingly, she did not turn up. The organizers waited for her with high anticipation till the end but surprisingly, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan did not turn up for the event.

She was also awarded for a special category and Ash had given her words to come and grace the occasion but she not only ignored the functions but also did not feel to inform them. Everyone waited for Ash's arrival with bated breathe but the beautiful lady did not arrive till the last moment.

News : 'Yes, I'm pregnant', confirms Lara Dutta

When asked why she at first denied the news of pregnancy. To this the long lass actress said that she has neither denied nor confirmed the news but she and Mahesh was waiting for the right time to spill this good news to the world.

One still remembers veteran actress Mandakini dancing under waterfall and flaunting her assets in modesty in white saree. It was reported that Kareena Kapoor will do the Mandakini act in the sequel to 'Once Upon A Time In Mumbai' but the actress finally did not give her nod to the scene. Kareena is not comfortable enacting the scene and hence she requested the makers to drop the scene.

In the film, Akshay Kumar will play gangster Dawood Ibrahim and Kareena Kapoor will essay the role of his ladylove. It was said that Dawood fell for Mandakini after seeing her bathing in waterfall in 'Ram Teri Ganga Maili'. As Bebo is playing the role of Mandakini, the makers wanted her to enact the same scene which the actress refused.

A source revealed, "Madakini is remembered for that scene in Ram Teri Ganga Maili.

Milan didn't ask Kareena to go so bold. However, the scene that he had envisaged was quite titillating and demanded a certain amount of exposure. Kareena was not comfortable with it."

Explaining the backdrop of the movie, Milan said, "See, there's no denying that OUATIM Part 2 is a story based on the dreaded underworld don Dawood and his friend-turned-foe Chhota Rajan.

And Kareena plays the role similar to that of Mandakini, who was allegedly very close to Dawood at a point in time. Luthria, simply wanted to establish the connect."

The film will go on floors in January.
