Okay, so I didn't mean that the way you were thinking I did, or did I? What I'm talking about is going naked on your face. Not wearing make-up is something a lot of girls do, and there are also a lot of us who shudder at the idea knowing it will never happen. I constantly ask myself — an avid make-up wearer and lover — why we feel the need to wear make-up all the time. I have been wearing make-up ever since my parents finally caved, which was when I was in grade 6 or 7. Also, like most others I started wearing black liner everyday (not very well I might add). It got to the point where I couldn't leave the house without it on and would freak out if I were forced to go into public without make-up on.

Did it help me look better? No, probably not, however based on my thinking at the time, I looked like a runway model with poorly placed eyeliner. What it did for me was boost my confidence for the time being, which in turn made me more self-conscious when I wasn't wearing it. Over the years it got worse…I was wearing full-faced foundation and all that accompanies it everyday, regardless of whether I needed it. My skin started to break out and I started to realize what I was doing was ridiculous. So, slowly… very slowly, I started wearing less make-up each day. Now most days I wear mascara and some eye shadow at most and some days I don’t wear any make-up at all.

I mean, it’s not like I went this extreme..

Wearing make-up every day can lead to clogged pores, acne, dryness and other issues that aren't fun to deal with. Now I'm not saying that you shouldn't wear make-up at all, because I'd be a bit of a hypocrite if I did. All I'm saying is try to go without make-up for a day, maybe even two! There are lots of girls out there that couldn't imagine going without make-up, and the thought scares them, they way it did me. There are some easy ways to start so it doesn't seem as scary.

  1. Start small and work at your own pace. I don't expect you to go from wearing a full face of make-up one day, to not wearing any the next. If you can, that's great! If not, that's okay. Pledge to eliminate one step from your routine every day/week etc… Not only will it save you time in the morning, you will slowly reduce the amount of make-up you're wearing.
  2. Eliminate products that duplicate one result. Use blush and bronzer? Pick one, you will reduce the amount of make-up you're using, while eliminate the need to repeat steps.
  3. Find clothes and accessories that highlight your features. By wearing earrings or necklaces that draw attention to your features, people will notice them more. It will bring out the natural color in your eyes or lips. Colors will also help. Pick colors you like that also enhance your natural colorings. Browns and blues will enhance blue eyes, where as purple and green will enhance green eyes.

..not this blue though

Not wearing make-up is really only as difficult as you make it, and you can do it. Everyone looks beautiful in his or her own skin, and once you emulate the confidence in yourself to go bare-faced, you will feel just as beautiful as you are.

Thoughts?

What's your make-up routine? Do you go without make-up often? If so, how long did it take you to transition to it, or have you always done it? Comment below, email us at info@college-style.com or tweet us @collegestyle12 or @meggles_07. We love to hear what our beautiful readers are thinking!
