| Types of Shoes Every College Girl Should Own Posted: 15 Sep 2011 06:11 PM PDT By Megan of George Brown College. Follow me on Twitter @meggles_07! People have always said that diamonds are a girl’s best friend, but I would skip the 14 carats, if you handed me a pair of Louboutin’s.We all have that unpractical pair that we fell in love with at first sight, had to have and couldn’t leave the store without unless someone removed you, forcefully. No? Oh, then maybe it’s just me… When you’re going to college, and especially when you’re moving into a dorm, where you may barely have enough room to turn around with your arms spread, let alone store all your shoes, it isn’t practical to keep all your shoes with you. So I’m going to break down the pairs of shoes that every college girl should have. If you own doubles (or maybe triples) within the same category, pick your favorite. Storing all these shoes in a dorm room is nearly impossible with the lack of closet space you’ll have. My Shoe Collection (aka. My Pride and Joy)
The collection is growing at an alarming (yet pleasantly accepted) rate. Most of which do not fall into these groups, but I love them anyways. Interview/Internship Shoes.
The best option when it comes to picking a shoe for interviews or internships is something classic. The classic black pump is always a favorite of mine; it will get you through almost anything. If you’re tired of the black pump, stick with something neutral. Grey or nude are great alternatives. Party Shoes.
Almost every shoe I own was bought with this in mind (I feel a little guilty), bright colours, crazy prints, or sky-high heels all fit into this category. Picking one, or two pairs of shoes that fit into this category will do you just fine. If you can’t bear leaving your beauties at home, take two pairs and then trade each time you return from college. Boots.
I believe that every girl should own a good pair of boots. Especially ones that won’t make you want to throw them across the room when you’ve been in them for more than an hour. There is the obvious winter boot — something that will keep your feet warm — and something that you can wear socks under is a must! I’m investing in a new pair of boots this year, and for all you curvy and athletic girls, don’t be discouraged! Your calves are your friends and heels make them look fantastic, so embrace them! Finding boots can be tough, but they are out there! Keep up the hunt, and you will find something that you will most likely enjoy for longer and more than a spur of the moment purchase. Workout Shoes.
Work-out gear has come a long way these past few years, and now you can choose from every possible type of function you want them to perform. However, not all of those new and exciting add-on’s for running shoes are designed to be the best bang for your buck. Reebok’s Easy Tone shoes for example. I thought they were the coolest things in the world. I went to the store, found a shoe from another company with the same design, only to find a lovely paper explaining the “do-not’s”. “Do Not wear running”, well what else am I going to wear them for? I sure won’t wear them with jeans — that’s just a whole new level to casual. Stick to something that will do double duty and more importantly something you can wear to the gym to run in! My final thought on workout shoes: I call them workout shoes for a reason. Run in them, hike in them, workout in them… I’ll even accept you wearing them to do laundry in. Please don’t wear them with jeans or anything else! It was all the rage in kindergarten, but please, for the sake of shoes, don’t do it! You will thank me. Everyday Shoes.
This shoe covers everything: something you can throw on while your running to class and last all day in. Flats, boots, wedges or whatever you like can be your everyday shoe. When you’re picking which ones to bring from home, only pick one or two. Most of the time you will only wear the pair you see often, so those ten pairs in your closet piled on top of one another? You won’t wear them nearly as much as the ones beside your door. Keep your everyday shoes practical, stylish and comfortable. Match them with your personal style and most importantly make them versatile. Ask yourself these questions:
If the answers are all yes, chances are good you’ve found your everyday shoe. Thoughts? So, what do you think of my tips for shoes? What’s your shoe collection like? Comment below, email us at info@college-style.com, or tweet us @collegestyle12 or @meggles_07. |
