George Brown Represent!! Photo Credit: My Camera Okay, so here at CS I’m the odd one out of the bunch, why is that? I’m from Canada! I am representing the Canadian readers and am currently writing this from my Student Lounge in downtown Toronto in between classes. I think the best way to describe downtown Toronto is busy. Now don’t get me wrong it’s fun, exciting but mostly it’s busy. The closest thing I can think of relating it to is New York City. Streets are packed with cars, people are walking or running everywhere (including in front of cars to cross to the Starbucks across the street). The view from almost everywhere in the city is pretty fantastic though, this is the view from the outdoor terrace on the second floor: Photo Credit: My Camera. There is an insane amount to do in Toronto when you’re not in school, countless restaurants, bars, clubs, and lots of shopping. I have the largest mall in Toronto within a 10 minute walk, and several Starbucks (and Tim Hortons!) right across the street. The most populated area has to be Young and Dundas Square, where there are an abundance of shopping and restaurants and live events in the square all the time. The one thing I love about going to school in Toronto, is the fact that it’s so busy and exciting. Everyone walking down the street is on a mission, and you can’t help but feel like you’re being productive when you are downtown. Now, I’m one of several who loves the city, there are some (like my boyfriend at times) who cannot stand the amount of effort it takes to travel to and from the city everyday for classes. I live north of the city and have to take public transit into the city each morning. Driving distance is about 1 hour, however when you are leaving your commute in the hands of others driving the bus and subway it takes about 1 hour 45 minutes, and the same if not longer coming home but when I get a view like this while studying, it’s hard to be sad. Photo Credit: My Camera George Brown College is a great school, and offers a wide variety of program options from Accounting to Culinary to Graphic Design! The school also has incredible teachers who are top notch in their field and bring so much more to the table when your in class. Overall, I love the city of Toronto, and couldn’t be happier that I am able to come here everyday to learn and catch up with friends.
