Hey, guys! Sorry I know I have been procrastinating on putting up pictures of my apartment. I’ve been getting emails asking for them so here they are. Enjoy! Also, read our series on dorm decorating: Decorating, Clothes as Decor, Closet,  Living Room, Office, Bedroom and College Essentials.

Do It Yourself: T-shirt to Tank Top

Idea inspired by Pinterest! Check out the link of the original creation.

Thanks to my new interest in Pinterest (a social media that collects all of your favorite things), I found a DIY project that I wanted to try out. I turned a common t-shirt into a loose fashionable tank top. Try out these steps for yourself!

Materials needed:

  • T-shirt: I suggest a medium or a large. I used a small t-shirt for mine and it wasn’t as loose as I wanted.
  • Scissors: You need these to cut the shirt.
  • Ribbon: This will be used to make the razorback of the tank top.

Steps:

1. Gather all of your materials on a larger surface. I used the floor of my dorm room.

2. Use your scissors to cut off the sleeves and the collar. You also need to cut an upside down U-shape out of the bottom of the shirt. Depending on how low cut you want your tank top you might want to cut out more of the collar area than I did. You also need to stretch out the bottom part of your tank top to create flow in the fabric.

3. Now, flip your shirt over and tie the two straps of the tank top together. Tie your ribbon into a bow, creating the razorback of the tank top.

4. Time to show off your creation! These tank tops can be great gifts that you can personalize with a friend’s favorite color or pattern. They are cheap and easy to make. I purchased my t-shirt from Walmart for only $1!
