I've been wanting to write this article for the past few months, but being the traditional person I am, I couldn't bear to bypass the gluttonfest that is Thanksgiving. So, without further ado, I present my Christmas Wishlist. I think that at the ripe age of nineteen, I have finally reached that stage in my life where it's OK to invest in certain wardrobe staples. My feet are done growing, and I (hopefully) won't be gaining any copious amounts of weight in the near future. So, with this mindset, I've finally decided it's okay to drop some serious cash (or ask my parents to) on several items that I can wear until the day I die. Hunter Rain BootsThe first thing that I really want is a pair of graphite Hunter rain boots. In high school, my best friend and I each bought a pair of colorful, patterned rain boots. We prayed for rainy days, and we couldn't wait to traipse around the halls of our school with dry feet and our "stylin’ wellies." But when we finally got the rained that we so desperately hoped for, we were in for a rude awakening. Our friends were merciless with their jokes, and it became apparent that our rain boots were the lamest things they had ever seen. Well, the joke’s on them, because when we got to college, rain boots became a necessity. At my university, when it rains, it pours, and you find yourself wading through Lake UGA. While I like the patterned rain boots that I currently sport, I am in love with the sleek sophistication of the solid Hunter rain boots. The graphite color will go with practically anything, and as I mention before, I have an unusual affinity for gray.
Schoolboy Blazer from J.CrewAnother item on my Christmas Wishlist is the Schoolboy Blazer in navy from J. Crew. I've wanted a blazer for a while, but I could never find one with the right cut, detailing, or thickness. Then, I received a J. Crew catalog in the mail, and like an act of fate, I flipped right to the page with the Schoolboy Blazers. It was love at first sight. The blazer has just the right amount of androgyny, and it can be styled a million ways. It transitions seamlessly from winter to summer, and I have already envisioned countless outfits that the blazer will complete. The navy color will look good with nearly everything, and even if it doesn't, I will refuse to take my blazer off. Fossil WatchThe final piece I'm dying to add to my wardrobe is a new watch. Last year, I bought a watch for $14 from Target that I wear nearly every day. People constantly confuse it for a Fossil watch, and while I have certainly gotten my money out of this watch, I think it's time for an upgrade. In the wee hours of the night when sleep in evading me, I peruse various websites searching for my ideal watch. Then, one day while I was shopping, I saw a Fossil poster in a store, and the most beautiful watch in the world beckoned to me. It's the Stella Plated Stainless Steel Watch in Rose, and like nearly everything I like these days, it's boyfriend inspired. Once again, it will go with nearly everything, and its look is timeless. If my parents or grandparents or anyone, really (I won't ask questions), gets me this watch, it's likely that I will be wearing it until the day I die. While I love a good bargain, sometimes, it's worth the money if you're investing in a timeless wardrobe staple. So, this year for the holidays, instead of getting a bunch of little, chintzy things, consider asking for one or two classic pieces you can wear until the end of time.
