For me, lovemaking is no big deal: Bipasha

Posted: 15 Dec 2011 10:28 AM PST

From cladding a bikini in 'Dhoom' and 'Players' to doing bold scenes in 'Jism' and a raunchy item number in 'Omkara', sultry Bipasha Basu says she has inhibitions doing kissing scenes in films.

She had showed her bold side in 'Jism' (2003) with ex-beau John Abraham, especially in the song 'Jaadu Hai Nasha Hai'. For Aditya Chopra's 'Dhoom 2', she wore a bikini and then sizzled the screen with an item song 'Beedi Jalaile Le' in 'Omkara', which became a rage.

"For me, love making is no big deal, it is like any other thing. But when it comes to kissing, I have not overcome it. It is tough.

I feel it is too private a moment and also the way we are we brought up, the kind of cinema we are exposed to when I started acting, kissing was not a regular thing. But now, in every film, kissing is regular," Bipasha told.

"When I see an English film, I feel it is no big deal, but when I have to do it, it's a very big deal. I have still not overcome it, it is bit of a block that I have," she said. In her eleven years of acting career, Bipasha has done two kissing scenes-- one with John in 'Jism' and Ranbir Kapoor in 'Bachna Ae Haseeno'.

"When I had to do it (a kissing scene) I was paranoid. Everyday I used to go to Adi and Siddharth saying 'please cancel this, please get it out', and they use to laugh at it saying it is small thing. But I was petrified. I have not done many kissing scenes, except two," she said.

Katrina's item song is a rip-off

Posted: 15 Dec 2011 08:28 AM PST

Katrina Kaif's next item song is taken from a 2006 Marathi film; music composers who made the original song, promise that the new one will be scorch the dance floors

Katrina Kaif's item number Cheekni chameli in Karan Johar's upcoming production Agneepath, is actually a foot-tapping peppy Marathi dance number from a 2006 Marathi film Jatra featuring Bharat Jadav in the lead.

The original Marathi song Kombadi palali was composed by the brothers Atul and Ajay Gogavale and is still played at festive occasions.

While Kaif refused to comment on the number, a source said, "When Katrina heard the song she was blown away. She immediately started swaying to the rhythm.

It's that catchy." The brief given to composers Atul-Ajay and choreographer Ganesh Acharya was simple. "'Make it more rocking than the original, " said the source.

Atul Gogavale says, "Yes, Cheekni chameli is a Hindi version of our Marathi song. We had to make the Hindi version even better.

Shreya Ghosal has sung it in her signature soft style. Though we are known for our lavani songs, Cheekni chameli is not lavani number."

After eight days of dancing under Ganesh Acharya's supervision, Kaif, we are told, is unable to move a limb.

Says a friend of the actress, "She has taken three days leave to recover before she resumes shooting for Ek Tha Tiger.

Compared to the steps in Cheekni chameli, Katrina's movements in Sheila ki jawani were child's play."

Ye Stupid Pyar - Review by Mansha Rastogi

Posted: 15 Dec 2011 04:28 AM PST

Ye Stupid Pyar is one stupid attempt at filmmaking. A royal ignore! - Mansha Rastogi    Thu, 08 Dec 2011 As they say you can't be lucky for having good films making their way to cinema halls all the time. There come some movies too that make you cringe and crib no end. Ye Stupid Pyar is one such film. With dismal publicity and no face value, Ye Stupid Pyar may definitely vanish without a whimper, however, for those rare few out there who might go astray with the title, here's the review.

Abhishek Khurana (Jatin Khurana) comes to India for a two weeks leave from his job in USA. He joins a gym and meets Neha (Noopur Patwardhan) and falls in love with her. After many salsa learning sessions, gym sessions and dance songs, the two get married. Neha doesn't want to go far off from her parents so Abhishek shifts from US office to Bangkok only to find her wife missing on the very first day there. What happened for Neha to have disappeared, does Abhishek find him? Does anybody care?

Right from scene one, the film takes to a steep downward swing with not a single scene worthy enough to be called decent. Filmmaker Rakesh Jain who also happens to be the story writer exhibits zilch filmmaker sense. Having a half-cooked plot replete with non-actors and no graph whatsoever, Rakesh turns YSP from a bad to a worse and intolerable product.

It wouldn't be wrong to even term this film an unintentional zombie movie with the lead actor Jatin Khurana scaring you with each appearance. With half a lip, flaring nostrils and absolutely no expression on face, Jatin is a standing disaster and should compulsorily be sent to an acting academy before he takes to destroying yet another film.

The side actors all appear to be relatives of the producer (read same person as the director and story writer) or the ones who may have come for dirt cheap wages and show no touch in acting. Pieces of logs would've sufficed instead.

Even in the shooting style and the narrative there appears no aesthetics. The intimate scenes are enough to make you nauseous and want to throw up. They not only appear vulgar but also gross. The least I shall comment on the music the better! The print is grainy and the background score is awry!

Over all, Ye Stupid Pyar is one stupid attempt at filmmaking. A royal ignore!

Ladies vs Ricky Bahl - Review by Mansha Rastogi

Posted: 15 Dec 2011 02:28 AM PST

Ladies Vs. Ricky Bahl may not be another Band Baaja Baaraat but undeniably calls for a good one time watch! - Mansha Rastogi    Fri, 09 Dec 2011 There's a lot that's come as a package this time around with Ladies Vs. Ricky Bahl - the Yash Raj Banner, the successful trio Maneesh Sharma, Anushka Sharma and Ranveer Singh that gave Hindi cinema a cult hit Band Baaja Baaraat, and the formula plot of conning along with a dash of girl-boy bashing. However, despite that the trade buzz of the film has been very average. Let's find out whether the film too turns out to be an average affair or do the mass get yet another BBB?

The film opens with a loud, brazen and brash Delhi kudi Dimple Chaddha (Parineeti Chopra) excited about showing her cleavage sheavage to her gym instructor turned boyfriend Sunny Singh. She regales in calling herself red hot and is head over heels in love with Sunny but even before their love graduates to something serious Sunny sweeps away a fat sum of 20Lac from her father and vanishes in thin air.

While Dimple nurses her heartbreak, somewhere in Mumbai the conman is locating his next victim - Raina Parulekar, a calm and stoic corporate woman who has to comply to her boss's whims and acquire a MF Hussain painting in just 72 hrs. Enters Deven Shah, an art curator and dealer who has exactly the painting she is looking for. So while Raina thinks herself to be smart enough to acquire a painting that wasn't even for sale initially, Deven sweeps away a staggering 60Lacs cash from right under her nose.

A conning of such a level calls media attention and Raina gets posted on national TV owing to which she gets connected not only with Dimple but also Saira and we are introduced to yet another master plan of the conman. Iqbal Khan, a coy businessman from a small town moves to Lucknow to find buyers for his goods. Saira (Aditi Sharma), a shy young widow, gets attracted to Iqbal and decides to help him with an order of worth 10Lacs!

The three forces get together eventually to avenge themselves. And in a bid to seek revenge hire Ishita Desai, a hardcore sales girl who can even sell spectacles to a blind man, to con this conman. Whether Ishita succeeds in doing so or gets conned in return follows through the rest of the plot.

Filmmaker Maneesh Sharma's biggest asset has been his fast paced direction. Never for once in the entire first half does he leave room for the audience to breath or think in order to analyze the plot. He packs his first half with razor sharp editing, exceptionally well written dialogues and outstanding acting. The second half however takes a beating by falling into the John Tucker Must Die mode with an addition of love track, romance and melodrama and also a traditional and tripe end.

The film can easily be reviewed and rated in a compartmentalized format and each and every aspect about it is distinguished.

1 complete star to Parineeti Chopra, this girl is a real revelation from the YRF banner. Her act of a loud Delhiite is a complete winner and also forms the best chapter of LVRB

1 star for Ranveer who proves with this film that he definitely isn't a one film wonder. The Goa portions of the film that have a chiseled Ranveer oiled and sizzling will surely attract hoards of female frenzy at the theaters.

1 star to the storyline that despite being run of the mill provided a much needed entertainment quotient.

Anushka Sharma's portions in the film are well shot but she doesn't take the cake this time around. Although her bikini clad avatar will definitely win her excessive male attention.

Over all, Ladies Vs. Ricky Bahl may not be another Band Baaja Baaraat but undeniably calls for a good one time watch!

Land Gold Women - Review by Mansha Rastogi

Posted: 15 Dec 2011 12:28 AM PST

Land Gold Woman is definitely blemished and might work only in the festival circuit that looks at Asians as oriental or exotic. - Mansha Rastogi    Fri, 02 Dec 2011 Time and again there are many a diasporic filmmakers who try to either evoke the colours of India as they vision it from miles afar or raise issues about the Indians living abroad.

Debutant filmmaker Avantika Hari takes up similar route giving it an art house twist and comes up with an award winning film Land Gold Women. After doing the rounds of many film festivals in India, the film finally hits the theaters. Whether it appeals to the commoners or not remains to be seen.

Based on an Asian family living in Britain, LGW is the story of Nasir Ali Khan (Narinder Samra) a 45 year old professor living in Birmingham with his family. He is a doting father and and indulges their love for all things English. His 17 year old daughter Saira (Neelam Parmar) wants to study further. However, a visit from his brother from Lucknow changes everything. Saira is asked to get married to a stranger back in India. Little does Nasir know that Saira is already in a relationship with a White man David (Chris Villiers). Bound by the religious code of Land Gold Women, Nasir is suddenly reduced to make a choice between his daughter and the reputation of his family.

The film starts with a prison scene where Nasir is explaining his case to the lawyers and then goes into flash filled intermittently with intercuts of past and present. Debutant filmmaker Avantika Hari right from scene one makes the climax obvious and then tries weaving the story around it making for a predictable watch.

Never for once in the entire film, does the story denounce or reproach honour killing and ends up justifying it unintentionally in the process of depicting the story. It does try to put across Saira's point of view as well as a meek retaliation from her mother, but the opposition is too subliminal and the film ends up being just an act of honour killing.

The plot of honour killing is filled intermittently with racial attacks on Asians which again has been over abused in Hindi cinema. Even the twist in the climax is very predictable and seen once before in the first story of Love Sex Aur Dhokha.

However, what's praiseworthy about the film is a lilting background music that perfectly blends well with the bleak happening. Even the portrayal of an Asian family living in England is very realistic. The narrative with intercuts of past and present is decently executed.

Over all, Land Gold Woman is definitely blemished and might work only in the festival circuit that looks at Asians as oriental or exotic.

Desi Boyz - Review by Mansha Rastogi

Posted: 14 Dec 2011 10:28 PM PST

Desi Boyz, despite all flaws, provides for wholesome desi entertainment. An enjoyable one time watch specially for Sanjay Dutt's performance! Go for it! - Mansha Rastogi    Thu, 24 Nov 2011 Whenever you hear an actor say, 'This film is different', you know you are in for a run of the mill cliché. However, there are times when their words come as an exception and in case of Desi Boyz it's definitely one, and a pleasant exception at that.

Set against the time financial meltdown across the globe, Desi Boyz is the story of Jignesh Patel a.k.a Jerry Patel (Akshay Kumar), a security guard and Nick Mathur (John Abraham), an investment banker. Life is perfect as the two live happily in their London pad. However, fate takes an ugly turn when the two lose their jobs during recession and face heavy financial problems. While Nick needs money for a happy married life with Radhika Awasthi (Deepika Padukone), Jerry needs financial support to take care of his late sister's son Veer. With no job at hand, the distressed friends turn to being male escorts. How their lives take a turn after that, how Radhika handles Nick's new profession and whether Jerry manages to get Veer back from his foster family or not follows through the rest of the plot.

Desi Boyz may definitely not be a water-tight script neither can it be called an extremely original plot for it seeks 'inspiration' from many a Hollywood films and also an apparent real life story, however, it's the execution of the film that makes one get transported into the lives of the actors. While the first half trudges at snail's pace with a few comic punches here and there, it's the second half that involves all the fun and frolic making for an enjoyable watch.

Debutante filmmaker Rohit Dhawan who happens to be comedy king David Dhawan's son doesn't quite follow the footsteps of his father and saves his film from treading into slapstick regions. Though wavering in the start, Rohit holds the reigns of his film quite well and does bring in a decent blend of story, emotions and humour. There are scenes in Jerry Patel's plot easily picked up from Adam Sandler's films, Billy Maddison being one of them, but they don't quite pinch in the broader scenario and might get unnoticed.

Even the songs in the film don't break in unnecessarily and are perfectly placed in the storyline. Music by Pritam works well with the story of the film and complements the star perfectly, not to mention they already ruling the charts.

Akshay Kumar, much against the recent hamming he was accused of in many a comedy films of his, delivers a restrained yet pleasant performance. His chemistry with Chitrangada Singh is sizzling and the two definitely set the screen on fire in one of the salsa scenes though Chitrangada's stand alone character appears very rushed up.

John Abraham exhibits tremendous amount of improvement from his last attempt at comedy with Akshay Kumar in Garam Masala. From a completely clueless and overshadowed actor in Garam Masala to an equivalent of his experienced co-star in Desi Boyz, John has definitely come a long way. His pairing with Deepika Padukone is also refreshing and pleasant.

But what takes the cake in the entire film and probably gives clap-worthy moments to fans is the entry of Sanjay Dutt. Each time he makes entry on to the screen he exudes magnetic charisma with his appearance is also aided by the best punches and dialogues in the entire film.

To sum it up, Desi Boyz despite all flaws provides for wholesome desi entertainment. An enjoyable one time watch specially for Sanjay Dutt's performance! Go for it!

Shakal Pe Mat Ja - Review by Mansha Rastogi

Posted: 14 Dec 2011 06:28 PM PST

One shouldn't go by the looks of Shakal Pe Mat Ja and definitely pay heed to this review. The film is easily avoidable. - Mansha Rastogi    Thu, 17 Nov 2011 Shubh Mukherjee may not be a known actor but his easy claim to fame (read recognition) in the industry has been his marriage to actress Hrishitaa Bhat. The actor who last starred in an obscure film Nakshatra makes his way to celluloid this time not just as an actor but also as a writer and director with Shakal Pe Mat Ja. But as the title suggests, one should definitely not judge the book by its cover hence we give you an insight into what this film is about.

Shakal Pe Mat Ja is a comedy of errors about four boys, Ankit (Shubh Mukherjee), Bulai (Harshal Parekh), Rohan (Chitrak Bandopadhay) and Dhruv (Prateik Kataria) who get caught as suspects at the Delhi Airport on a high alert day. Their crime? Filming the planes for their apparent documentary.

Their interrogation turns out to be a nightmare not just for them but also for the cops as one thing leads to another while the ATS and Terrorist groups also get entangled into the fiasco!

Shakal Pe Mat Ja appears a clear case of fingers in too many pies. Director, writer and actor Shubh Mukherjee's attention appears scattered and uneven in almost all areas. His director is headless, story aimless and acting clueless. The entire episode happens within the confines of the airport and it is an utter disbelief that they show the ATS (Anti Terrorist Squad) unable to find four people at the airport! Moreover, when they eventually find the bomb their bomb squad says they will take time to reach that place and the task is handed over to the hero (Shubh), a person who diffused sample bombs in college!!!

The film still has one good thing about it and that's the editing. The intercuts in the film are smartly interjected and even the way the characters are introduced is intelligently done. Only if the length of the film could be worked out, it could've become a little more bearable. There are scenes that are too long and unnecessary which could easy be edited.

Another sore point of the film is the jarring background score. It's painfully loud to a point of challenging your tolerance. Music is decent but would've worked better had it been picturised well. Actors like Amna Shariff and Saurabh Shukla are wasted. Harshal, Chitrak and Dhruv add to the agony.

To sum it up, one shouldn't go by the looks of Shakal Pe Mat Ja and definitely pay heed to this review. The film is easily avoidable.

Miley Naa Miley Hum - Review by Mansha Rastogi

Posted: 14 Dec 2011 04:28 PM PST

Chirag Paswan should try harder once again. This time around his attempt with Miley Na Miley Hum clearly doesn't work. - Mansha Rastogi    Fri, 04 Nov 2011 The only reason why this film is in the highlights is because it marks the launch of Political scion Chirag Paswan! Having said that, there's one dialogue mouthed by Kangana Ranaut in the film that clearly sums up this effort, "Khele bine haar jaoge toh jeet nahi paaoge. Aur agar khelke haroge toh shayab kabhi jeet paoge." Well maybe that's why you even have Chirag son of Politician Ram Vilas Paswan making an attempt at acting. Whether it works or not remains to be seen.

Chirag a budding tennis player is brought up between warring parents Siddharth (Kabir Bedi) and Shalini (Poonam Dhillon). Chirag divides his stay with his parents on monthly basis. While one month he stays with his father and work with him on his vineyard, the next he stays with his mother, a business magnate and helps her out with her work. Now the twist in the story comes when both the parents want to see Chirag married. Shalini wants Chirag to settle with Kamiah (Sagarika Ghatge) while Siddharth wants Chirag to marry his friend's (Dalip Tahil) daughter Manjeet (Neeru Bjwa). In order to concentrate on his tennis career and get out of the sticky situation Chirag bluffs being already in a relationship with an upcoming model Anishka (Kangna Ranaut).

How he convinces his parents about dating Anishka, how Anishka agrees to be Chirag's girlfriend blah blah follows through the rest of the plot.

Directed by old timer Tanveer Khan, Miley Na Miley Hum is one of the most poorly written stories. There are many sub-plots within the script which are forced only to reach to a certain point. The film starts with a flashback and the story only comes to the present times in the last 5 minutes of the film.

Chirag is shown to be a nobel, humble guy making you wonder if that's his profiling being done only to make him stand more confidently in the next elections! The originally green eyed actor, wears a very glaring blue coloured lens which does not really suit him and is easily detectable. Moreover, he is taut and holds only one expression in each and every situation of the film making you wonder whether he is happy, sad, worried, tensed etc.

There are some scenes which are hilarious and unbelievable. For starters, Shalini views one of the old videotapes of Siddharth playing with Chirag and guess what that videotape is from? Rakesh Roshan's Khoon Bhari Maang where Kabir appears to be extremely young!

Sagarika Ghatge and Neeru Bjwa are completely wasted and barely have anything to do in the film other than dance one-one song each. Kangana Ranaut over acts and her character isn't well defined. Here again her looks seem odd. Wonder if she is undergoing one surgical change by each film. This time around her bust looks heavier and lips much more fuller. Sadly there's work done only on her appearance and not on acting. She seems to have lost touch even on her drunken act that she so easily used to pull off in her earlier films.

Music is a deterrent and only adds to the agony of the viewers. Shweta Tiwari's item song looks hilarious rather than raunchy all courtesy Chirag's taut dancing.

Over all, Chirag Paswan should try harder once again. This time around his attempt with Miley Na Miley Hum clearly doesn't work.

Loot - Review by Mansha Rastogi

Posted: 14 Dec 2011 02:28 PM PST

Loot robs you off your sanity. Watch it at your own risk - Mansha Rastogi    Fri, 04 Nov 2011 So the team of Hindi film industry's old times Govinda, Suneil Shetty and Jaaved Jaafery come together for a film as hackneyed and tripe as themselves. Produced by Suneil Shetty himself, Loot has the three coming together in an attempted comedy directed by debutant filmmaker Rajnish Raj Thakur. Whether the comedy tickles people's funny bones or not remains to be seen.

Loot revolves around four characters Pandit (Govinda), Akbar (Jaaved Jaafery), Builder (Suniel Shetty) and Wilson (Mahaakshay Chakraborthy). All happen to be small time robbers and cons and are called together to execute a big heist planned by Batlivala (Dalip Tahil). The four are set out to Pataya to pull off a robbery of jewels. But expect the bumbling thieves to fill their plans with errors and they never fail you.

A shoddy rip off of Hollywood flick Crime Spree, Loot clearly has a very jaded feel to it. Not only has the film been in the pipelines since a very long time (easily noticeable from Mahaakshay's hefty appearance), even the filmmaking sensibilities are very trite.

One can easily point out that there have been no efforts on writing the script or the screenplay as the film is a scene by scene lift off. However, it wouldn't be wrong for one to expect at least some amount of execution put behind this copied copy too. But debutant filmmaker beats you even at that.

The entire film is mired by tawdry situations, tacky production values and aching dialogues. So much so that you feel like storming out of the theater. Almost 80 per cent of the dialogues rhyme for no rhyme or reason making you wonder if the characters on screen are trying to play antakshri.
Govinda, Suneil Shetty and Jaaved Jaafery put together could make up for a very good comedy as one cannot doubt their comic timing. If only the filmmaker could tap that.

Mahaakshay is a complete disaster and is one of the sort points of the film. Shweta Bhardwaj barely has scenes in the film. Ravi Kissen's plot is completely wasted and he only reminds you of the painful film Chitkabrey.

Mika and Kim Sharma yet again are wasted, not that Mika as an actor could be tapped better. The biggest waste of a resource is of Mahesh Manjrekar. An actor of his caliber could really do wonders in the film but sadly gets reduced to doing his hackneyed act of his earlier times.

Rakhi Sawant's item number comes right towards the end credits and by then you are already out of the theater running for your lives. Mika's promotional track doesn't exist in the film while Music overall is best avoided.

On the whole, Loot robs you off your sanity. Watch it at your own risk.
