westward leaning sunglasses!

Between the sunglasses-at-night craze of ’09 and the lens-free librarian rims of last summer, it’s safe to say eyewear could use some direction.

So we’re eyeing new SF-based shades label Westward Leaning.

Eight unisex, black-rimmed styles are inspired by people, groups, or movements that powered social progress. (Designer Robert Denning worked with Al Gore’s socially sustainable investment firm before co-founding the line with Stanford biz school classmate Karlygash Burkitbayeva.)

Louisiana Purchase frames are inlaid with jazzy brass; Children of California and Teddy Roosevelt designs are a vision in reclaimed redwood bits and elk antlers, respectively; Mercury Seven shows off futuristic, polished aluminum.

Meanwhile, Love Thy Neighbor (adorned in mini Mexican Chaquira bead mosaics inspired by the humanitarian nonprofit of the same name) proves even casual shadesters won’t turn a blind eye to worthwhile causes.

To which we say? Good lookin’ out.

Available online at westwardleaning.com, $180-$385.
