| Right on Target: An Ode to My Favorite Store Posted: 09 Nov 2011 02:40 AM PST By: Emily of The University of Georgia. Follow me @emilyhovis. The other day, a friend of mine tweeted something along the lines of "If I had a million dollars, I'd probably spend the majority of it at Target." I laughed a little, wished I was at Target instead of writing a speech and then I retweeted it. I didn't truly understand the truth behind this tweet until I had a rather embarrassing experience at Target yesterday. My roommates and I had decorated our apartment door with a "Boo" sign from the Target dollar department, and an unfortunate incident involving our unruly neighbors and a hot tub led to our sign being destroyed. A week later, I couldn't bear the look of our naked door any longer, and I found myself driving to the nearest Target. As I walked by the clothing section, I suddenly felt as if the whole store was either laughing at me or accusing me of seventeen counts of shoplifting; I was (stylishly AND affordably) decked out in Target from nearly head to toe. Who knew that Target could be so stylish? This year is the first time I've ever really lived on my own, so my roommates and I were bound to forget some of the essentials when we moved in. Consequently, I've been making almost weekly trips to Target for the past three months to stock up on things such as paper towels and essential kitchen gadgets. Unfortunately, I lack the restraint to bypass the clothing and accessories' department on my way to the can openers, and I always manage to pick up a shirt or two and a purse and shoes and a scarf…Needless to say, it's not very hard for me to talk myself into buying a leather satchel purse for only $24.99. This mindset and complete lack of willpower are what led me to be wearing a Target top, purse, wallet, watch, AND shoes as I shamefully tried (and ultimately failed) to avoid the clothing department. The new satchel that I’ve been sporting this season. Last week, I headed to Target to buy a few groceries and some face wash, but before I knew it, I had spent all of my food money for the week on new shoes and tops. Normally, I would feel pretty ashamed by the fact that I have to eat Ramen Noodles for the next week, but it's hard to be depressed when I have a pair of suede booties for only twenty dollars. Target and other discount warehouse stores are great places to look when it comes to buying trendy pieces. In a perfect world, I would have an endless supply of money to spend on all of the must-have items for fall, but realistically, it's just not practical to spend large sums of money on trendy fad items. Target is the perfect solution because I can buy a pair of moccasins for under twenty dollars, and I'll have no regrets when I toss them to the back of my closet after this season. My suede booties from Target that often get mistaken for Lucky Brand booties While I love wearing things like blazers and high-waisted skirts, sometimes you just can't beat the simplicity and practicality of a basic v-neck t-shirt. Over the past month, I've bought four "boyfriend style" v-neck t-shirts from Target in a range of colors. They are so comfortable and so easy to style that I have to force myself to wear other shirts. And now that winter is approaching, I'm going to be paying a visit to the long sleeve shirt department, and there's no doubt that I'll be spending many days this winter snuggled under my Target comforter in my Target pajama pants. I know what I’m going to be wearing… I love shopping more than anyone should. Boutiques make my heart sing. Malls make my pulse quicken. And online shopping makes my soul soar. However, I've managed to avoid one of the major downfalls of being a shopaholic: I have not become a brand snob. Sometimes, it's okay to splurge on that designer handbag that you've been eyeing for months, but when it comes to seasonal trends and wardrobe basics, save your money where you can. Thank you, Target, for helping me save money by spending money. Thoughts?Do you find yourself dropping all of your cash at Target? Are you a fan of other discount stores?
