| To Complain or Not to Complain: Going to the Hairdressers Posted: 10 Nov 2011 02:30 AM PST By Megan of George Brown College. Follow me on Twitter @meggles_07! Okay, I’ll set up the story for you. After weeks of deliberation on what you’re going to do with your hair at your upcoming appointment you finally know what you want. Be it, just a trim or the hottest new style that was on the red carpet the other week. Regardless of the simplicity of your cut you need to know what to ask for to reach maximum potential and reach minimum disappointment. I’m going to go over some tips on how to make sure you get exactly the cut you ask for, and also when to complain (and the best way to do it) when things don’t go exactly as planned. Asking for the Cut.Now, when it come to the cut you want, try and be as specific as possible to make sure your stylist knows exactly what you’re looking for. Bringing in pictures is something I always try and do when I’m changing my hair drastically. Also, when looking for pictures, don’t try and find one picture that suits everything you want. Bring in a couple that have different elements you like. One for the colour (if you’re planning on changing it), one for the length and layer styles, and should any of the other pictures not have it, bring in another picture with the style of bangs you like. Point out each element to your stylist and if you aren’t feeling 100% confident in their understanding of what you want, don’t be afraid to ask them questions! Remember, it’s your hair, your money and your time so you have every right to ensure that they understand every aspect of what your looking for. If Something Goes Wrong. Now hopefully none of you lovelies will have to deal with this, but, unfortunately it does happen. A friend of mine went in to get her hair coloured and styled for prom the day of and her stylist over-processed it to the point that sections where a very light blue-blonde. Thankfully, it wasn’t noticeable the night of, but it wasn’t what she asked for.
When to Complain.
Colour:- You have every right to complain immediately if your colour isn’t what you ask for, and you notice something wrong. Now while most places will have no problem correcting the mistake free of charge , you may be told that it’s in your best interest to wait up to a week or two before they can correct the colour. The stress that your hair is put under when colouring can be made even worse if you colour immediately after. It’s best to wait a week or two to ensure you don’t wreck your hair.
Cut:- With a haircut, you can complain until your blue in the face and they have offered you everything under the sun, but it won’t help the hair that’s currently strewn across the tile floor. Don’t let this stop you from complaining though, if you asked for a half an inch off and they cut more than that, complain! More often than not, your stylist and the salon will not charge you for the cut, and rightfully so since you didn’t get what you asked for. - Unfortunately, some hair stylists are more, how do I put this lightly…unreasonable, than others, and won’t think they have done anything wrong. I have had a scenario in which my stylist tried to tell me that I asked for my bangs cut off, when all I wanted was a trim! In these cases, if complaining with your stylist isn’t getting anywhere, try speaking to the floor manager or the owner. No need for it to be an all out Jersey Shore style brawl, just calmly ask to speak to the manager and explain the situation in a civil manner.
Injury:- Hopefully, no one will have to deal with cuts or something else of the sort, but in other situations like when someone is washing your hair or brushing it, be vocal. - If the water is too hot, let them know! Most will ask about the temperature of the water, however if they don’t or if it suddenly changes, just let them know it’s starting to feel a little too warm. - While they are washing your hair, let them know if they are being a little too rough. They likely won’t be upset and after all, it’s all about you while you’re in that chair. Same goes for while they are brushing your hair, if your hair gets knotted easily, it could hurt. Just let them know. Sometimes it’s helpful to brush it yourself if your hair is super tangled.
