How to Wear Skinny Jeans

Jeans are pretty much a universal match. You can wear them with anything, which is part of why we love them so much! Skinny jeans are an awesome cut which many girls love to mix and match with just about anything. But how do you make them — and you — look their best? Skinny jeans can be flattering to any body type provided you wear them right. Some things to keep in mind when styling skinny jeans are:

Balance is Key

Fashion is all about proportions. You can use your clothes to enhance your best natural features, fake having better features or camouflage the ones you're not so crazy about. When you wear skinny jeans, it's important to keep balance. If it's tighter on the bottom it needs to be looser on top and vice versa in order to look appropriately balanced. Tunic tops, flowing fabrics and looser shirts look awesome with skinny jeans as they help to balance each other. If your top isn't loose, make sure it's long as this will also help with proportions. A tight, cleavage baring top and super-skinny jeans together looks trashy, but one or the other paired with a more conservative piece would be appropriate for almost every occasion.

Fancy Feet

Few things look better with skinny jeans than boots. Except maybe ballet flats. Or high heels. Come to think of it, skinny jeans love most shoes as much as I do. Knee high boots, ankle booties, high-top sneakers, ballet flats and heels all look fantstic as skinny jeans show off your shoes like no other cut. And what could be better? Putting your best foot forward and showing off your awesome shoes is another way to make your whole outfit look great.

Style Inspiration

Here are some ways to wear skinny jeans and hopefully some outfit inspiration as to how to pair pieces you might already have in your closet!

A good rule to keep in mind is that the darker the denim, the dressier the jeans are. Black or dark blue jeans are the best for more formal looks. Another thing to keep in mind is that if you need to be office appropriate, wear skinny jeans and not ”jeggings”. Skinny jeans that are too tight aren’t classy. They have their place, but it’s not the office. If you want to instantly make your skinny jeans look dressier, pair them with heels. Basic black or nude pumps are classic professional, but your shoes are also a great way to add an unexpected pop of color and personality.  If you're going for a more professional look, a blazer adds structure and polish to any outfit.

For a more causal day of classes, shopping or just hanging out, distressed skinny jeans are an edgier option that let you look cute and feel comfortable. Dark or light wash skinnies would be appropriate for this outfit, but keep in mind that dark washes are more forgiving to every girl’s gams. Pairing a loose, relaxed tank top with a cardigan in a fun color is easy and perfect for temperature changes you endure going in and out of buildings and from class to class. Skinny jeans are also perfect for showing off the tops of your favorite high top sneakers.

Bold Color

Colored demin is a huge trend this fall and red pants in particular are one trend I think we can count on becoming a classic. For the brave and the bold, red pants are a totally fashion-forward way to turn heads and show your style and confidence. The most imporant thing to remember when wearing colored denim is to keep the rest of your outfit somewhat muted. A belted sweater in a neutral tone is simple and conservative to temper the rest of the outfit. Boots and skinny jeans will always look amazing together and black boots are a classic contrast for red denim.
