Rockstar : Movie Review

A large crowd queued up outside Verona Arena, Italy, one of the most renowned places of Italy, eager fans awaiting for the concert of Jordan to start, and amidst all this a dishevelled and unkempt looking rockstar breaks through the clout of cops after a fight into the arena showing complete disregard to his fans, storms onto the stage with a rage and croons to his hearts content.

Cut to the past, Janardhan Jakhar (Ranbir Kapoor) a simple haryanvi boy from Pritampura Delhi who yearns to become a big singer someday falls prey to multiple suggestions from people like a gullible person, most intending only to cause mockery. One of the many suggestions is to undergo a heart break or inhabit a pain in the heart because as Khatana, the canteen owner (Kumud Mishra) says, "toote dil se hi sangeet nikalta hai".

Janardhan thinks he hasn't seen bad times and to come to the stature of Jim Morrison he has to do something about it. That's it, enters Heer Kaul (Nargis Fakhri) a PYT of the Stephen's College. While the entire college ogles her, Janardhan keeps proposing her for her to humiliate him and in turn give a much needed heart break. That doesn't quite happen, but in the process they both become friends and soon after Janardhan gets coined Jordan and through many highs and lows of his life (read heartbreak), the simple gullible boy turns to an angry Rockstar!

You might want to blame your memory for reminding you of Mausam but Rockstar to some extents treads the same path. The film traces the journey of the lead actors from Delhi to Kashmir then to Prague and back to Delhi while each time their love each other remains unrequited.

It takes nearly 3 hours to establish the birth of a raged sensation who traverses from wishing he could get away with showing his middle finger as a salute just like Jim Morrison to actually doing it in a fit of rage.

Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali who gave Hindi cinema one of the most celebrated romantic films Jab We Met showcases his prowess brilliantly in the first half as he slices and dices the cuts from past to present and back to past. The is simply perfect. The pace is breezy, enjoyable and most importantly relatable and believable. It even gives you glimpses of Jab We Met.

However, just when your expectations are hightened with the first half and you look forward to the second you are in for a huge disappointment. As that's when the trite Bollywood cliches seep in. So much to your agony you have a reasonable sick and bed ridden Heer who gets better only when she meets Jordan. He has some apparent "magic" in him to be curing her just by sight so much so that she starts walking, going places and even her medical condition magically improves. And in his absence she again goes back to being sick.

The characters too are unevenly sketched. So while on one hand you have the backdrop and characters of middleclass Delhiites perfectly established on the other you see the Kashmiris appearing very caricaturish. They wear kashmiri outfits, despite being in Delhi, their living style is completely like that so much so that you think that if there were no cars in Delhi, you must just find them roaming in Shikaras!

Ranbir Kapoor excels in his acting and gives a crackling performance. Nargis appears conscious and has a very distracting pout that makes her appears as if she is overacting! Piyush Mishra as Dhigra is perfect and Kumud Mishra does a swell job throughout the film.

A special mention of Shammi Kapoor who lights up the screen in his cameo which can also be called his last appearance on the celluloid. A pleasure and delight to see Shammi Kapoor in complete glory! Music by AR Rahman needs no mention as it already has the nation tuned to it.

Cinematography by Anil Mehta is commendable while editing by Aarti Bajaj could be better or remain consistent just as it was in the first half.

Over all, Rockstar may not be one of the finest attempts but is definitely worth a watch for its pleasing first half and the ace performance of Ranbir Kapoor.

Abbas-Mustan's forthcoming film Players, has Sonam Kapoor showing off her middle finger while driving her car. This has raised quite a few eyebrows. But what's interesting is that Sonam's this gesture has not been noticed censor board.

Well, while some of the people from the industry wonder what went wrong with the otherwise vigilant censor board officials, a few of them feel that Sonam Kapoor should be very careful with all her public gestures as she is considered the youth icon of the country.

If sources are to be believed, the CEO of the censor board, Pankaja Thakur was absent while the scene having Sonam showing her middle finger was passed.
"Pankaja was on leave last week when the Players trailer was submitted. The regional officer JP Singh passed the scene, apparently without knowing its relevance," said the source.

Say's the director of the film, "Whatever is seen in promo is situational in film."

Reportedly, after the release of SRK's Ra.One, Alvira's sent out a mobile phone message that read: 'Even a Superhero needs a Bodyguard!'

Phew!!! Finally all rumors about the female cast in Race 2 comes to an end, with Deepika Padukone confirming the news about she being in it.

Deepika has been the original choice of the makers and they are very glad they have her finally.

A source says, "After Katrina Kaif's sizzling chemistry in Race, the producers and directors were keen to take the sizzle quotient to the next level in the sequel. And Deepika has that oomph and sex appeal to take that chemistry a couple of notches ahead."

Siting date issues, Deepy opted out of Race 2. However, the dates are sorted out and DP has confirmed her presence in the film, herself. She is being paid a huge fee, too.

Now, with Deepika being a part of the film, she will be acting opposite Saif Ali Khan, marking this as her forth film with the actor.

Deepika tweets, "And the 'RACE' begins…". She has started shooting for the flick already. The movie hit theaters late next year.

News : Karishma and Sunjay in reconciliation mode

Rumors about Karisma Kapoor filing a divorce with Delhi-based businessman Sunjay Kapur, once again comes into limelight. But this time, there is some good news. It is heard that the couple have decided to give their marriage a second chance.

A source tells a populat tabloid, "Lolo had a great time in Delhi. She stayed in Sunjay's house for about four to five days. She has not looked so happy in a very long time. She clicked pictures with Sunjay and her kids and sent them across to Kareena, who was in London for the launch of her wax statue at Madame Tussauds."

In the year 2003, Karisma married Sunjay. Things did not go well between the two, after that. Sunjay's closeness to other women did not go down well with Lolo.

A source close to Karisma told, "Lolo and Sunjay are in a reconciliation mode. Why else would she go all the way to Delhi with her kids to celebrate Diwali?"

We hope, this reconciliation doesn't be a hindrance to Lolo's filmy career, as she is currently working with Vikram Bhatt on Dangerous Ishq.

Well, this is something surprising, which has never happened in the history of Bollywood. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (I&B) has set certain guidelines for all news channels barring their coverage of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan giving birth to her first child. Those of you expecting to get a complete coverage of the arrival of the child are in for a disappointment.

These guidelines have come into existence following a tweet by Amitabh Bachchan.

The guidelines state the following:

Pre-coverage of the event, a big NO.

Any news regarding the child's birth, to be published/ run only once an official announcement has been made.

Story will not run on the breaking news band.

Absolute restriction of camera or OB vans at hospital or any other location related to the story.

Only when invited, channels can go for photo-op or press conference.

No MMS or photo of the child to be carried by the channels, unless issued by family.

No astrology show to be done on this issue.

No 11.11.11 astro shows to be done.

The duration of story to be around a minute/ninety seconds.

Unauthorized entry into hospital not permitted.

NK Singh, general secretary of the BEA said,

"The main purpose (of the guideline) is to make Indian electronic news media more value-based and purposeful for broader public cause. I cannot respond to your email per se but I can only tell you about the sublime purpose which the BEA is seeking to achieve."

Another broadcaster said, "Is this self regulation or censorship? And why only for this story? Isn't it ironic that a move which seeks to curb publicity will find a mention in all the newspapers tomorrow?"

News : No good roles, Shilpa takes a break from acting

Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty took a break from films for two years as she is bored of doing the same thing and the roles that is coming her way is repetitive and she does not want to do the same thing again and again.

"No earth-shattering roles were being offered to me. There was nothing. Whatever little work was coming my way, I had already done those things. I didn't want to repeat myself. I want to do parts that will justify me as an actor," says Shilpa.

Married to businessman Raj Kundra, Shilpa believes that it is necessary to take those breaks as she has many more responsibilities towards her family. "So, I have taken this deliberate break for two years before I start acting again. I had reason to do that because I got married and responsibilities and priorities all changed for me overnight. I'm still a full-time businesswoman and it's very difficult to do everything together", she added.

She said that she is not missing her original profession, "I don't miss it. I'm very content in my life and I'm very busy with my business and my husband, so I don't really feel like I'm losing out on it".

She is a complete businesswoman. She owns a flourishing spa business, an Indian Premiere League team (Rajasthan Royals) and her own yoga DVDs, and recently she has launched a discounted real estate website, Group Home Buyers, for the middle class segment. The long legged actress is soon going to start her own production house.

The actor will be next seen on celluloid in 'The Desire'.

Controversial Bangladeshi singer Taslima Nasreen lashes out at Priyanka Chopra's father calling him an idiot. The writer reacted strongly when Priyanka's father Dr. Ashok Chopra comment on Priyanka's achievement and made a remark that 'Priyanka is like a son to me'.

The writer took to Twitter to burst out her anger, she tweeted, "Priyanka Chopra`s father said, `Priyanka is like a son to me`. What an uncouth idiot man! Daughter hatred not yet gone. News : ‘Heroine’ in trouble, once again

Seems like problems in Madhur Bhandarkar's film Heroine, never seems to come to an end. After Aishwarya Rai being replaced by Kareena Kapoor, now it is the music composers Salim-Sulaiman opting out of the film.

If buzz is to be believed, music composers Salim-Sulaiman have reportedly had a fallout wit UTV and so the composer duo have chosen to quit Heroine.

Reason for the fallout: The composer duo have demanded royalty for
their music. Since this demand hasn't been taken with the right spirit by the production house, clashes occurred between the two.

"UTV did not expect Salim-Sulaiman to make such a demand. The composers have worked with UTV in Madhur Bhandarkar's Fashion in 2008. The box office success of the film had at the time benefited Salim-Sulaiman as well," informed a source.

The source further added, "It's not that Salim-Sulaiman have had a successful run in the recent past. So their demand for an additional royalty has raised a few eyebrows."

UTV as well as Salim-Sulaiman are adamant about the entire issue. "It's a stalemate. If UTV and Salim-Sulaiman, both parties refuse to budge, then the music director for the project will need to be replaced," added the source.

News : Silk Smitha’s family sends legal notice to 'The Dirty Picture'

South sensation Silk Smitha's family is upset with the makers of 'The Dirty Picture'. Her brother V Naga Vara Prasad sends a legal notice to Milan and producer Ekta Kapoor claiming the movie obscene. They also claimed that the film was made without their permission.

They were not happy as how their sister has been portrayed in the movie.

"We came to know through TV channels and newspaper reports that The Dirty Picture portrays my sister in a rather obscene way. Ekta Kapoor is making the film with Vidya Balan in the lead role. Neither the producer nor the director contacted us (the family). What right do the producer and the director have to make this film, without the family's consent?" Vara Prasad questioned.

Confirming that he has indeed sent a legal notice to the makers of The Dirty Picture, Vara Prasad added, "There still has been no response from their side. We are now going to send a second notice in a couple of days through a High Court lawyer in Hyderabad. If they go ahead with the release, we will be compelled to initiate proceedings."

Silk Smitha, whose original name is Vijayalakshmi, belongs to a small village in West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh. Vara Prasad, the only brother of Smitha, said that the family and relatives were upset with the film that shows her in obscene avatar.

"We learned that they made the film based on inputs given by an alleged boyfriend of Smitha in Chennai. If they wanted to make a perfect film with facts in place, they should have contacted us to know about her childhood at least," said her brother.

Vara Prasad added, "We have to see the content of the film. Whatever is objectionable has to be deleted. Those days, the media was limited hence we could not get the actual truth behind her death. Many believe that she ended her life because of financial problems. It may not be the truth."

Prasad also made it clear that the family is not looking for any monetary gain. "We don't need anything from them. We just want them not to hurt us and our relatives," he stated. He said the family would do its best to prevent release of the film on Dec. 2, the birthday of Silk Smitha.

When contacted, Milan Luthria said, "Basically people like us tend to get into a situation like this very late in the day. It is very difficult to say anything at all as our legal advisors have warned us not to comment since the matter is subjudice".

Also, Chitrangda hasn`t done an item song before, so the novelty value is very high. She was exactly what we were looking for."

News : Vivek Oberoi goes nude

Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi is soon going to follow John Abraham and Neil Nitin Mukesh. He is going to strip down for his upcoming film, the sequel to 'Ek Chalis Ki Last Local'. The film will be directed by Khanduri.

It is not yet decided as how much Vivek will be strip down. The makers will be deciding on it on the editing table. When asked whether Vivek surely requires stripping down then the makers said that it is the demand of the script and he has to do it.
