Double Dhamaal : Movie Review

Some things never change. Like Indra Kumar's style of storytelling. From "Dil" in 1990 to "Double Dhamaal" now, the fun never stops…that is, if fun is what you derive out of overgrown boys played by actors ranging from 20 to 50 who repeatedly get hit in their testicles.

Ouch!Balls are walls that the script scales to achieve a lowbrow calibre of hectic humour.

This slapstick comedy never escapes the ouch pouch. Cocooned in a juvenile comic mood that takes the characters through a maze of hazily-written humour, the narration leaves no pause for any emotion, not even exasperation that bubbles up in you as you watch the antics of the four semi-retarded protagonists, played at various octaves of lunacy by the talented trio of Riteish Deshmukh, Arshad Warsi and Javed Jaffrey, plus there's Ashish Chowdhary, looking a little lost in the maze of amazing comic timing.

Chowdhary shows up in the second-half in drag masquerading in siliconed splendour as 'Barbara Gori' offering 'her' soul and, ahem, body to Sanjay Dutt.

Oh, didn't we tell you? Dutt's the way we like it. He plays a kind of senior jester in the durbar of drollery. In almost every frame he is flanked by the two beauties Mallika Sherawat and Kangna Ranaut playing his sweetheart and sister, respectively. Feminine comfort swathed in designer ludicrousness.

Significantly the two ladies don't dress in character. They don't need to. Attired in the best designer gowns carrying the best bags that money can buy they resemble two models who show up at a beauty pageant in a moneyed little hamlet in Gujarat.

The film spares no expenses to look sleek. The characters are either silhouetted by skyscrapers or their equivalent created indoors by set-designers whose concept of lavishness won't match with what you've probably seen in the pages of Home & Interiors magazine.

There is no attempt to cohere to any acceptable standards of aesthetics here. As a director Indra Kumar has not made the mistake of evolving over the years. Crude food brings forth a belch of satisfaction from the audience.

The sleekness that we see in the songs and dances should not take away from the general rumbustiousness that pervades the plot.

Everyone hams it to the hilt. There is no room for subtlety and nuances. And by the time Arshad Warsi, one of the finest comic talents in our cinema, gets down to promising Dutt he won't 'blow' his 'job' we know the writers of this flamboyant farce are happily scraping the bottom of the barrel.

News : Abhishek thanks fans for their good wishes

Would be father Abhishek Bachchan is on cloud nine and he thanked all his fans for their good wishes. Ash and Abhi are expecting their first child four years after their marriage.

"I want to thank all for their warm wishes. We are very happy and would like to thank all our well wishers for their love, support nad blessings," Abhishek, 35, told.

Seen as a couple in films like Kuch Na Kaho, Guru and Raavan, Ash and Abhi got married on April 20, 2007.

On Tuesday, Abhishek`s father and megastar Amitabh Bachchan had announced the good news on microblogging site Twitter that his daughter-in-law Aishwarya is expecting.

In Zoya Akhtar's 'Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara', Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif had shot three minutes long kissing scene in a group song which also features Abhay Deol and Farhan Akhtar. Now Zoya is in a dilemma whether to keep the scene or delete it. She feared that Kat and Hrithik's intimate scene might not take away the essence of the group song.

Revealing the nature of the scene, an insider elaborates, "After a severe exchange of words, Hrithik's character Arjun leaves in a Buick. Katrina (Laila) chases him on her bike. Stopping his car, she forces him out and pinning him on the bonnet, kisses him. And it's a rather long scene."

However, Zoya's looked the first cut of the song, she felt that the scene was too much for a group song, "When they saw the first cut of the song shot during the Spanish Tomatina festival, Zoya felt that the chemistry between the two actors was too much for a group song," adds a source.

Well, Zoya is in two minds whether to keep the scene or not.

Aishwarya Rai's pregnancy has put filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar and UTV in a fix. The pregnancy news which is a very very good news to the film industry is not real gone down well with the makers of Ash's forthcoming flick, Heroine.

Ash's role in the film is supposed to be that of a sexy superstar at the helm of her career. But this is not possible anymore. The makers have thus decided to put their venture on hold for a while.

"Soon after Madhur heard about Aishwarya's pregnancy, he called the producers and they decided to meet. So, director Madhur Bhandarkar and the producers Ronnie Srewvala and Siddharth Roy Kapoor met up at around 4pm on Wednesday.

While the producer UTV has still not declared it officially, the buzz is that Madhur has decided to stall the shoots for the film," revealed a source.

Say's the source, "No one, including herself knew about the pregnancy. She wuld never have started shooting for the film otherwise,"

In fact Madhur was surprised to hear about the pregnancy. "He was hoping that Ash would be able to shoot the film, but that is unlikely now. What they have already shot are portions where she needed to look older. The next schedule required Ash to lose weight and also dance, which obviously is not possible now.

The final call will however, be taken in another meeting scheduled in a couple of days," added the source.

The film that had gone on floors barely a fortnight back, was initially supposed to be completed within 60 days.

Gossip : Ranbir-Priyanka link-up stories continue

Bollywood beauty Priyanka Chopra and the naughty Ranbir Kapoor, shared a strong chemistry, the last time they shared the screen in 'Anjaana Anjaani'. There were link up stories between the two. But despite the speculation the two maintained that they are just "good buddies"

The so called "good buddies" are back to rock the screen in their forthcoming Anurag Basu's 'Barfee'. So ione can expect the sparks to fly once again.

Says a source, "The two had a five day schedule together. When the two met, they looked like they just picked up from where they had left off the last time around, just like any friends would. In fact, strangely there were no hints of them ever being a couple, nor any awkwardness despite the rumours they'd had to dodge the last time they shot together for Anjaana Anjaani".

Another source close to the stars added that their busy schedules had kept them from staying in constant touch with each other. "But both were happy to have met again. It's just that unlike their last film, this time the nature of thefilm is quite serious, so the two didn't joke around as much. The two are, however,looking forward to begin shooting together again in August, when Priyanka returns from the US," added the source.

Incidentally, both Ranbir and Priyanka are making sure that they keep their private lives out of the limelight taking extra measures to ensure that they don't get linked again. "Both have been written about extensively for their past relationships and now the two only want to concentrate on their careers," said a source

"I would like to congratulate Mr. Bachchan that he is going to become a grandfather and also Abhishek and Aishwarya. I hope they make a whole cricket team," Salman told reporters here at an event to launch a Blackberry application.

Aishwarya dated Salman at one point of time but the couple had an ugly publicized break-up in 2001. On April 20, 2007, Aishwarya married Abhishek Bachchan and became the Bachchan's bahurani.

Director duo Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK are all set to make a zombie comedy. The duo had a success with their last, critically acclaimed Shor in the City.

This zombie comedy will be the first out-of-the-box, unique concept for the Indian audience. The latest buzz we hear is that Saif Ali Khan will be playing the central character, probably the zombie. However, the zombie character has been kept under wraps.

According to a trusted source, "The film is produced by Saif Ali Khan's Illuminati Films and is tentatively called Go Goa Gone. It is a horror comedy, a mix of two unlikely genres. Incidentally, Saif has been quoted saying that he wanted to make a horror film for some time now. Something like this has never been done in India."

He further added "Preparation on the film started a few months ago, and shooting is about to start. Saif loved the idea in the first few minutes of hearing the concept and wanted to do it immediately. Saif will play a central role in the film while his sister's boyfriend Kunal Khemmu will play an integral part."

When contacted, Raj and DK said, "After Shor, people said we should do a romcom. And we thought, why not do a zomcom instead? We have had this story idea for years, but we think now is a great time to do this film. And the best person to do this with is Saif. Also, GGG is a complete change from Shor. A complete horror comedy with a lot of action thrills and chills."

Katrina Kaif outshining all other actresses, has finally been roped in as the leading lady in the Yashraj Film Dhoom 3.

The movie is full on action packed with Aamir Khan playing the baddie, escaping from inspector Jai (Abhishek Bachchan) and his sidekick Ali (Uday Chopra).

Well, now that the sweet and charming Katrina Kaif has bagged the prestigious role, she will have to undergo a through make over to fit into her character. Buzz also has it that the actress will have to don a bikini for the film.

Looks like after Anushka Sharma, it's Katrina Kaif who is the Yashraj banner's favorite girl. After 'New York', Kats has just got done with Mere Brother Ki Dulhan and is currently shooting for Ek Tha Tiger. There's also an untitled YRF film with Shahrukh Khan.

Initially, rumors had it that Deepika Padukone and Bipasha Basu were also approached for the leadi role in the flick. However, it is Katrina who clinched it.

Kangana Ranaut will replace Vidya Balan in 'Ishqiya' sequel, titled, 'Dekh Ishqiya'. Kangana is yet to sign up the project but she has been confirmed by the director Abhishek Chaubey. If the rumor is to be believed, Kangana has grabbed the project from Rani Mukherjee who was keen to be in the sequel.

Apart from Kangana, the sequel will have one more heroine. Madhuri Dixit is in the top list but she was not yet confirmed. When Rani heard that Vidya is no longer in the project, she started campaigning to get the role.

The movie gave Vidya a new dimension to her career and moreover, everyone is desperate to work with Vishal Bharadwaj. Arshad Warsi and Naseeruddin Shah will play the lead heroes in the sequel also.

News : Isha Sharvani denies marrying Zaheer Khan

Bollywood actress Isha Sharvani rubbished the rumor of getting married to cricketer Zaheer Khan. Isha was rumored to be dating Zaheer for quite sometime.

"I am not living in with Zaheer Khan, nor do I have any plans of getting married in the near future. I don't know where these rumours come from! I have stopped reacting to them. My family gets very stressed out when they read this rubbish and that makes me angry sometimes. Everytime my grandmother reads the newspapers, she asks me questions. I have told her to stop believing whatever is published, unless I tell her so myself. I think these are the hazards of being a celebrity and one has to pay the price of being one," Isha told.

Mallika Sherawat, Deepika Padukone and Katrina Kaif were considered as the item girls of Delhi Belly but none of them were selected. Finally, Aamir Khan himself decided to groove to the item song of 'Delhi Belly'.

Our source told us, "Aamir had said that he wouldn't mind grooving on the number, if he doesn't find the right girl to do this particular item song. That's exactly what happened."

The item number will be directed by Abhinav Deo and choreographed by Bosco. The shooting will be commenced from June 13 under tight security and the shooting will be completed within five days.

The source added, "The shoot was completed in five days. Only seven people were present on the set. Aamir had arranged heavy security guards for this particular shoot. Mobile phones, of course, were not allowed."

Let's see whether Aamir will give a run for their money to all those sizzling item girls.

News : Abhay Deol on item numbers

Abhay Deol is not really fond of item numbers. He in fact, finds them very boring.

According to Abhay, the item songs which are seen in almost every film nowadays are just marketing gimmicks with set formulas.

"It is like if you have to promote your film then you need to have an item number. It is about money, but one must not forget creativity. I don't find much originality in item songs because you remix old tracks or have a basic hip-hop beat, or you will have hip-hop dancers. And now of course trend is you want white women in the background and the lead stars in the middle," Abhay Deol is quoted as saying by a news agency.

Abhay has himself sung a song and danced in his upcoming film Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara.
"You never know… never say never. I am open to doing item songs as long as it works for the film. But I would at least try and make the effort of making the number a bit more interesting and original in terms of visualising and placement," Abhay said.

Abhay added that he doesn't like dancing.

"Dancing, I don't like. It is not something I really want to do. I don't mind trying singing….But dancing?" he wondered.

Sonam Kapoor is totally mad about Hrithik Roshan's dance. Making her admiration public, Sonam Kapoor doesn't really enjoy watching television, but she couldn't help but make an exception for Duggu.

"I really enjoyed the show. It was spectacular," the actress, who follows the popular US dance show informs. "There was actually a performance on a song from Jodha Akbar in the US dance show format," she quips.

Rooting for Hrithik, Sonam says, "I loved his entry. Only he can dance like that. There is no better person than him to judge a dance show.
It's hard to even blink when you see him dance onscreen. Even his speech was straight from the heart."

The young actress finds Hrithik's real life story very inspiring. "Its amazing that someone like him, who was advised by a doctor not to pursue dancing, ended up being the nation's best dancer.

It just shows you can achieve anything with determination, grit and passion. Those contestants are really lucky to be mentored by him," she adds.

Speaking about Hrithik's HR locket that has caught her fancy, the fashion-conscious actress says, "I would love to own that HR locket."

"I don't know if I should dance with him but I would love to when nobody is looking. Hopefully, I would get to do a film with him and we will have our own original number," she giggles.

Mallika Sherawat has donned a bikini in 'Double Dhamaal' and Sanjay Dutt's appreciation of Mallika's bikini moment has irked his wife Manyata Dutt. Sanju Baba later made her understood that it is only for film promotion and he has no such thought in his mind. Manyata started to think ill after media reported Sanjay's love for Mallika's bikini moment.

Though Sanjay has ranked Mallika Sherawat 7 out of 10, the filmmakers have apparently chopped the bikini scene from the movie keeping in mind the Indian audience.

Now that the bikini scene has been deleted, the controversy comes to an end.
